Story

Hi there
Starting on Anzac Day 2022, I plan to kayak 862 km, the length of the mighty Burdekin River in North Queensland. My journey will start near Greenvale and finishing 35 days later at the river mouth between Homehill and Ayr.
This will entail paddling up to 30 km's per day, hurdling  5 weirs as well as the beautiful Burdekin Dam and in the latter stages, negotiating around the occasional, hopefully friendly, saltwater crocodile.

My beautiful wife Peta will lead my backup team and will keep all supporters updated on my progress. I hope to meet as many people as possible along the way and pass on the story of  why I am undertaking this challenge.

I am supporting the community of Naduri, located half way along the  Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea. .As part of the Back Track Adventures family, I am proud to be a trek guide on the Kokoda Track and to share the  story with all Aussies of our brave soldiers, who together with their legendary brave Fuzzy Wuzzy mates,  fought and died on that bloody Track in 1942. The lifestyle we enjoy today is a product of their sacrifices.

Keeping the spirit of Kokoda alive, i am supporting Aussie NGO, KTF, to fund the operations of the Aid Post in Naduri Village, home to Back Track's Trek Crew. Your support will help the community have access to essential healthcare services, COVID-19 awareness and supplies and vital medication year round.

Please support my efforts by making a donation and by posting a message of support. No matter how small, your contribution will have a huge impact. As little as $5 helps.

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to KTF to support the Naduri Aid Post operations. All donations are tax deductable.

Thanks so much for your support!

AN IDEA OF HOW YOUR DONATION WILL HELP
? $5 – a simple packet of paracetamol, much needed for pain relief ( very expensive in PNG)

? $10 – nebuliser to assist with breathing difficulties, preventing needless (and sadly common) fatalities

? $20 – treats a person with a severe case of malaria

? $50 – antibiotics to fight a broad spectrum of infections

? $100 – provides an emergency birthing kit for safe remote deliveries, including sterile
gloves, sheets and blade (for the umbilical cord)

? $250 – could save a mother’s life with vital drugs to stop post-partum bleeding

? $500 – a month’s delivery of drugs and supplies to Naduri aid post

? $750 – supports Naduri’s Community Health Worker’s salary for a month

KTF (Kokoda Track Foundation)

We're an Aussie NGO that works with people and communities to improve lives, livelihoods and futures of Papua New Guineans, keeping the spirit of Kokoda alive.

Expanding beyond our original focus region of Kokoda in Oro Province, KTF now works with communities across 16 of PNG’s 22 provinces....and we have big plans for 2021 and beyond.

We operate programs in the vital areas of education, health, equality and leadership

Over the past decade, we have delivered a range of projects including the construction of school and aid post infrastructure along and around theKokoda Track, delivery of educational supplies to 20 schools and drugs and medical supplies to 15 aid posts, postings of 15 teachers and over a dozen communityhealth workers, distribution of over 32,000 solar lights across the country, installation of 1,000+ household solar units in the Kokoda catchment, establishment of businesses by Women’s Groups in five provinces and the design and delivery of the Archer Leadership program to find and foster PNG’s future leaders for 10 years.

600+ students currently have a second chance at education, studying Grades 9 to 12 via Flexible Open Distance Education at Kokoda College, Balimo College and the Motu Koita FODE Centre. We have trained 3,685 elementary teachers via our Teach for Tomorrow project and supported the ongoing professional development for teachers via Teach for Tomorrow II, upskilling 220+ teacher trainers. Teach for Tomorrow, the Early Years is developing and implementing Early Childhood Education frameworks in conjunction with provincial Departments of Education. Our network of coaches in Western Province is also working with a core group of 37 elementary teachers to build their teaching skills.
